How's the World? Messy...

When I hear of a injustice in the world whether it be a personal account or a story on the news, I find it very hard to react to the problem.  In our CST class, we listened to the song "if everyone cared" by Nickleback.  I remember a distinct line from the song. . . "as we lie beneath the stars, we realize how small we are".  I, by myself, cannot make a difference.  When I hear of a injustice that hits close to home, I feel so helpless to stop it.  The only thing I can do is pray.
The Gospel tells us to act like Jesus did and take physical steps toward stopping injustice.  But it also tells us to pray for the mercy of God.  Sometimes I am confused about what I should do.  I know my faith community can make a difference but how often does that one step my entire community takes truly impact social injustice?  I feel as though the people who have the most influence do not lift a finger to actively stop injustices.
Oscar Romero took physical actions to stop social injustice.  He was brave enough to actually follow the teachings of Jesus.  How many priests go the "ghetto" to help out a single mother? How many priests preach in a poverty stricken neighborhood? Religious people today, in my perspective, are not following His teachings.  Jesus loved the poor and outcasts.  No matter how dangerous the neighborhood, people who dedicate their lives to serving people and God should not preach what they don't practice.
I try to make a difference by praying. I feel as though it is the only thing I can do.  I want to help out and follow people who go on mission trips and leaders who try to end the injustice in our world.  But for now, all I can do is ask God to watch over the victims of social injustice.
